Parts Work in Compassionate Inquiry

August 20, 2024

Throughout my years of experiential study, healing and certifications in Compassionate Inquiry, I have come to really love parts work (rooted in Internal Family Systems / thank you Richard Schwartz). Many of us attempt to "give up parts of ourselves" yet that is not really possible. Being curious about different parts of ourselves that emerge in certain relational contexts is so profound and powerful! I have come to really love this part of my own healing journey and definitely enjoy being curious about parts in Compassionate Inquiry Sessions when working with clients.

I have long been a skeptic of the word "part" since it suggests a separateness or a disconnection of wholeness (healing = wholeness). Over time, and with great dialogues with Gabor Maté and other colleagues, I have come to see that the word part supports us in exploring the process that is emerging within us. This exploration is the pathway to a deeper relationship with our present moment experience. This leads to self-awareness, access to pausing and discovery of choices otherwise veiled. It often leads to a heart body centered embrace of all our parts and processes. This is compassion led and felt in heart body by and with our Essence and True Self.

The healing journey is profoundly creative and generative. It is a different world when we lead ourselves from Essence and True Self.

If you are curious about learning more about somatic healing and how to align with your Essence and True Self, especially during moments of challenge and suffering, reach out to me about Compassionate Inquiry Sessions. I have a few spaces available for new and returning clients.

Honoring us all in this grande unfolding of being alive and here together.

May all beings experience heart peace, love and embodied belonging.

Honoring Spiritual Friendship

June 25, 2024

A beautiful insight I have been recently contemplating is from something the Buddha said.

“Spiritual friendship is the path.”

For many of us, stepping more deeply into an intentional healing process means stepping into new communities of others who are also doing their work. Some communities we stay with for a long time and others are for shorter life chapters. However long the duration of being immersed in a spiritual community or however long a spiritual friendship may unfold, there are profound gifts and growth opportunities for us all.

Today I shine light on the beauty of compassionate, loving reflection from spiritual friends who are also on a healing path. I shine light on the trust and openness of sharing with one another, how we suffer, while standing in our work (grounded). There is an exquisite healing through reciprocity of truth sharing that occurs.

When I share with a spiritual friend how I suffer and am met with spacious compassion and presence, it provides a growth opportunity. This growth opportunity invites me to the possibility of reflection, processing and integration.

Being seen and seeing another is a powerful part of relationship that I invite you to honor with me. This is a process. Not every friend can be a spiritual friend and not every friend can be long lasting yet I invite you to the curious consideration that every friendship can be an opportunity for growth, transformation and healing if we are willing to notice.

With spiritual friends, there is a flow of giving and receiving. There is a flow of connection, dialogue and showing up for one another. There is a flow of quietness, space and reprieve.

With spiritual friends, there is a shared awareness of suffering being a part of life. There is an ongoing learning and discovery we can share together that relates to our own unfolding growth and healing.

Often we are reminded of how to be our own spiritual friends through the tenderness, gentleness and loving kindness spiritual friends share with us. The reflection of ourselves, to us, from spiritual friends, reminds us who we are and supports us to see ourselves more clearly by way of admiration, kindness and abiding presence.

Many of us go long periods of time in our lives where we are hungry for spiritual companionship and spiritual friendship. Engaging in an intentional healing process and stepping into community are wonderful ways to begin aligning with others who are investing in their own growth and health.

Given that so many of us have been wounded in relationship, particularly in some form of a group dynamic (family, school, work, et cetera), I honor the approach to community as letting it unfold to show us what it is and how it is. When we step into community and engage in an ongoing experience with others, what is it like to invite ourselves to allow an unfolding of what the group is, how it is and what connections may or may not unfold naturally? This approach can quell the weight of bringing our expectations (unmet needs) to a group which can result in frustration, disappointment and avoidance of what we are deeply seeking.

Spiritual friendship includes the dimensions of being human and being soul. The content in the dialogue is expansive, inclusive and generative in possibility.

What relationships in your life are spiritual friendships? What do you receive from these particular friendships? What do you offer? What do you notice in your body when engaging in these relationships?

For anyone seeking spiritual friendships, I encourage you to be open to the possibility of new community experiences. I encourage you to trust your gut sense of which communities are in alignment for your heart and body.

Open Presence, Somatic Healing and Heart Body Wisdom with Leigh Aschoff

June 21, 2024

This poem that I have read and heard so many times, speaks to me again as I welcome and acknowledge sadness, loneliness, fear, joy, love and gratitude as these sensations move through my living system [body]...

Honoring the dynamic nature of being alive. Honoring how unique we all are. Honoring the profound possibilities we often do not see. Honoring the ongoing possibilities for growth, expansion, contraction and un/learning the limits of the conditioned mind and relaxing into a greater field of life energy, together.

-

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

Compassionate Inquiry Invites You To Know Your Body's Aesthetic Equations

May 22, 2024

Our bodies are full of wisdom poems. Compassionate Inquiry is a somatic healing approach that invites you to know, and benefit from, the technology inherent in the poetry of your body.

A typical session begins with your intention. From a shared resonant understanding of your intention, we explore various features of your experiences related.

For those new to CI, setting an intention is a powerful part of the process. It invites you to pause, check in with yourself and discover, connect with, what most wants to be explored.

What do you want to shine light on today in your session?

Taking the time to fine tune your intention supports the flow of the session in a powerful way. It gives us something to anchor to and explore from.

The features we explore end up creating what I consider an aesthetic equation, a poem or a song.

What can we learn from the constellation of our experiences? We can discover how the past may be showing up in the present.

If it is, we are invited to feel the body sensations of this new awareness. We are invited to notice what it is like to explore how something happening in the present day may have a root far back.

Being continually frustrated in traffic, experiencing embarrassment when the waiter forgets your meal or feeling like a failure because you did not receive the professional review or promotion you expected are all rich areas to explore.

A rich area is a portal to a deeper connection with yourself. The areas we need to reconnect with ourselves the most are often out of easy sight or reach. Compassionate Inquiry is an approach to support this journey to reconnecting with ourselves.

Knowing your body’s aesthetic equations gives you an embodied understanding of your work. When you know your work, you get to know it more and more as it arises within you throughout your day to day experiences. Part of the sessions invites you to choose actions to engage in this work. Over time, if you engage in your work in a consistent way, you relate with your experiences much differently and this leads to more embodied (inner) balance by way of open connection.

Open connection is support by compassion. Compassion arises spontaneously in the presence of truth. As we deepen our relationship with what is really true (not the untrue stories and beliefs), we have the opportunity to experience clarity and freedom.

The healing work you engage with for yourself has a healing impact on the collective. I encourage you to remember this, especially when you are in a pit of tension or are in the process of a heavy rep. Incremental repetitions lead to transformational changes. May we all remember how connected we are to one another as we engage in the healing process of knowing our body’s aesthetic equations.

our bodies are portals of possibilities

April 26, 2024

One of my many favorite quotes is, “To listen is to be embodied”. Thank you Stephen Porges.

Throughout the trauma-informed somatic healing [Compassionate Inquiry] and energy healing [Transpersonal Energy Healing & Intuitive Healing] trainings I have experienced, this is a way of saying something I experience every day — in relationship with myself, those around me in my life and especially with the people I share the healing approaches with in session.

I have been contemplating this. If to listen is to be embodied, then we listen to our body, with our body.

Embodiment is a form of presence. We experience the presence moment through our bodies. And, our bodies remember things for us.

This is a profound opportunity for healing.

This is a profound opportunity for creativity [curiosity + possibility].

Our body memory manifests as sensation of some sort. Along with this is some kind of visual memory — images from the past that arise when we listen to our bodies, with our bodies.

If you have not yet experienced somatic healing, please accept my warm welcome.

Somatic means “of the body”. Soma means “body”.

Somatic healing sessions like Compassionate Inquiry invite your body into the process of healing. The sessions invite you to go beyond story. The story, what happened [then and now] are important yet that is more the pathway into body and memory than the main show.

How our bodies remember is a profound gift. Our bodies remember and call us in with sensation (tension, stress, numbness). When and if we are willing to listen [being embodied], we discover what is asking to be seen. From there we have an opportunity to participate, now, with what is arising from the past. And this time it is based in a conscious self-connection that is compassionately and empathically witnessed (by both practitioner and client).

This process I share about in words here is an experience. It involves an embodied listening [to body] and it calls forth an energetic knowing.

What do you really know about the suffering that presents in your daily life? Quite a lot, if you are willing to listen to your body, with your body.

Your knowing about your suffering includes needs. From history to now, needs ready to be known, cherished and embraced.

As a healing approach, Compassionate Inquiry is creative. When you are the person receiving the inquiry, your entire biological, energetic, physical system is leading. Compassionate Inquiry honors your lead. As a healing approach it lacks agenda or any specific method. This is important. A healing process needs openness, space and allowing.

Engaging in a healing process is a courageous act. I deeply respect Compassionate Inquiry for the space and active listening it naturally offers those who come to receive inquiry, rooted in compassion, tethered to the intention they choose.

Your system is listening. Your system is receiving. Your system is integrating. Your system is choosing.

What will you choose to compassionately support yourself around your same old repeating patterns of suffering and pain?

Listen to your body, with your body, to discover the vast possibilities available to you.

If this calls to you, I invite you to book a session with me through my website.

Somatic Healing with Leigh Aschoff

How Does Somatic Healing Differ From Traditional Talk Therapy?

February 27, 2024

Somatic counseling invites your body into the process of healing as an active and present collaborator.

This is an embodied experience; it is not only a process of mind and intellect.

Somatic healing is like discovering a poem your body holds for you. To discover the poem, we include awareness and relationship with body. The poem is an aspect of you, written by your experiences, your wounds and your wisdom. Your body holds the poetry which unfolds as part of the pathway to healing and ongoing heart expansion, connection and wholeness.

I have space available for those interested in working with me and experiencing Compassionate Inquiry. If you are curious about beginning or returning to sessions with me, do not wait. The spaces will eventually fill up.

This is deep work and like all great transformation, it takes time and incremental steps and reps. I work with heart warriors committed to honoring their healing timeline and the process somatic healing invites them to.

Every session begins with your intention or question. This is a powerful aspect of person centered healing that I am passionate about. You choose.

What will you choose to explore?

What Does Your Heart and Body Need Today?

January 09, 2024

Every breath is a new opportunity to choose gentleness. Inviting more gentleness and less judgment in our relationship with ourselves and one another is a powerful practice we can all engage with every day.

How To Feel With Your Heart Body

December 30, 2023

“Feeling is a subtler, passive process than emoting. It is best illustrated by contrasting the concepts of emoting and feeling. Emoting is when we cry, anger out, or verbally ventilate the energy of an inner emotional experience.

Feeling, on the other hand, is the inactive process of staying present to the internal emotional experience without reacting. In recovery then, feeling is surrendering to our internal experiences of pain without judging or resisting them, and without emoting them out.

Feeling is a kinesthetic rather than a cognitive experience.

It is the process of shifting the focus of your awareness off of thinking and onto your affects, energy states and sensations. It is the proverbial “getting out of your head” and “getting into your body”.

As a grieving process, feeling involves consciously reversing the learned survival mechanism of clamping down on pain to banish it from awareness.

Feeling “occurs” when we direct our attention to an emotionally or physically painful state, and surrender to this experience without resistance. When we relax acceptingly into our pain, we can learn to gently absorb it into our experience. Feeling then functions as if our awareness is a solvent that dissolves and metabolizes the affect, energy and sensation of our emotions.”

Ways To Offer Ourselves Love

December 23, 2023

When we grow to be loving in our relationship with ourselves, how does that shift our relationships with those we share with?

May our self-love practice be consciously connected to one another.

As I read, “The Diamond Heart: Book One” by A.H.Almaas for a second time, I am discovering the loving and connecting that those of us with human bodies have. YES AND how the love we share together in community supports that work we do ourselves yet cannot complete the personal heart body work we each have.

To be human is a precious gift. It is so easy to forget this in the world we live in.

I believe we can shift things. I believe we are blessed to be here. I believe, even amidst pain and suffering, there is something incredible that continues to unfold within us and all around us.

Wishing you and yours ease, heart peace and loving kindness.

What are ways you offer loving kindness to yourself?
How does this offering touch into your relationships with others?

May all beings experience heart peace, love, embodied belonging and liberation.

Heart Body Healing for Heart Warriors

December 19, 2023

I am calling in Heart Warriors for embodied healing. Saying yes to an intentional healing process is a pathway to knowing your work as a human being on the planet at this time.

If you have experienced separation, loss, othering and/or life experiences that in some way broke your heart, this work is for you.

If you are continuing to show up in the world centered in your heart, this work is for you.

If you are passionate about being a part of collective healing in an embodied, conscious, heart centered way, this work is for you.

Being in an intentional healing process in one on one sessions gives you the time and space to explore the intricate ways you have been wounded and in that process discover more clearly what your gifts are.

Somatic healing sessions also invite you into a deeper responsibility which allows for more connection and harmony — within you and with all your relations.

This becomes a practice. We all have our work. If this resonates for you, I invite you to say yes to an intentional healing process.

Honoring Us All Being Held By Heart Peace

October 09, 2023

HONORING THE NEED TO BE HELD : HONORING US ALL BEING HELD BY HEART PEACE

Being held, being seen, being heard…. ATTUNEMENT… what a profoundly healing experience that can be and often is…

So many of us search for this from the outside, a forever type of seeking that is often fleeting in satisfaction and unpredictable.

Yes, we are wounded in relationships and we heal in relationships.

Yes, being held by one another can be deeply healing.

And, what would it be like if we allow ourselves to be held by heart peace?

This is an invitation into the depths of our hearts, into the questions that spontaneously plant seeds of compassion in the darkness of our unconscious.

Unsubscribing from the conditioned thinking mind is an ongoing practice.

Deepening our connection to heart is an ongoing practice.

Honoring the possibilities still being revealed of how heart peace is already holding us and how we are not ever separate from its resonance, even when it is veiled to us perceptionally.

MAY ALL BEINGS EXPERIENCE HEART PEACE LOVE AND EMBODIED BELONGING.

Compassion is Alchemical Healing

Honoring compassion as a powerful yet gentle alchemy we experience when we connect with our heart bodies.

Curious about this? As much as we resist and push away “unsavory” feelings and sensations, bringing our attention to them is one possible pathway to transformation.

I have space for new and returning clients for one on one Compassionate Inquiry sessions. Compassionate Inquiry is a somatic counseling healing approach that honors your intention and heart body wisdom.

Heart Peace Healing Is Growing

July 17, 2023

Dear Wonderful Beings,

Thank you for being here, a part of Heart Peace Healing, just by this post today.

As I write this update, the title came to me and I am receiving the many meanings within one.

Healing in connection with heart peace within is a growing.

I write this update to share with you some changes. Heart Peace Healing is a living system that supports me in offering healing sessions for others. The living system that it is asks for changes as growing continually unfolds.

Beginning today, July 17th, 2023, I will offer a one time introductory session for those interested in experiencing Compassionate Inquiry Honoring Sessions with me. These sessions are 45 minutes over zoom and they are offered at a slightly discounted rate. These sessions are for new clients. This allows a shorter sample of Compassionate Inquiry and also time for any questions about the healing approach or my style as a practitioner.

To connect with me for an introductory session, apply here. After receiving your application, I will reach out to you directly through email.

For anyone wanting to connect prior to an actual session, be it the introductory session or 75 minute sessions, I am open to offering a 20 minute telephone call.

I will continue to offer 75 minute Compassionate Inquiry Honoring Sessions as I find it to be an ideal time for nervous system settling and gentle exploring of the intention you bring.

The Akashic Records Sessions I offer remain and those can be booked directly through my website.

As I work with those who step forward for healing sessions with me, I am continually in deep awe and humility to share my gifts in this way. Aligning my gifts with the work I do, in service to health, wellness and embodied liberation in our world is deeply meaningful for me.

Thank you for stepping forward to explore what transforming tension into embodied freedom is like, for you. Thank you for stepping forward with your courageous, open, curious heart.

Honoring you all, with heart.

With appreciation, respect and compassion,

Honoring The Light Within Us All on Summer Solstice

June 21, 2023

One of my favorite poems, especially to honor and celebrate summer solstice >>> HONORING ALL BEINGS THAT EVER WERE, ARE AND FOR THE UNBORN :

In the name of the daybreak
and the eyelids of morning
and the wayfaring moon
and the night when it departs,

I swear I will not dishonor
my soul with hatred,
but offer myself humbly
as a guardian of nature,
as a healer of misery,
as a messenger of wonder,
as an architect of peace.

In the name of the sun and its mirrors
and the day that embraces it
and the cloud veils drawn over it
and the uttermost night
and the male and the female
and the plants bursting with seed
and the crowning seasons
of the firefly and the apple,

I will honor all life
—wherever and in whatever form
it may dwell—on Earth my home,
and in the mansions of the stars.

HONORING MOTHERING

May 17, 2023

HONORING MOTHERING FOR ALL

As we collectively honor our biological, spiritual, earth mothers, I invite you to join me in honoring MOTHERING as a force of the Divine Feminine that we all have access to.

Ram Dass taught me that we invite one another into the infinite flowing stream of love. It is only an illusion that this love we access so deeply in our heart body awareness is ever “gone”. The stream of love is something we all have access to, even if and when relationships change.

Along with the more literal relationships we have to beings who are mothers, I invite you to consider all the relationships in your life (with people, animals, places, activities) that support you in an experience of being mothered, mothering yourself and mothering others.

Connection is a pathway of nourishing support. We are born with an expectation of connection, care, love and protection. None of us had a perfect childhood. Whatever we did receive and did not receive is part of our past. The past does not matter unless it continues to show up in the present (thank you to my/our teacher Gabor Maté for showing this).

MOTHERING has an energy of nurturing, allowing, gentleness, presence, protection, healthy limits and unconditional positive regard. We need to be nurtured and mothered as children and we continue to need it in unique ways as adults through our relationships and experiences.

What shifts when we are open to learning how to actively honor nurturing ourselves and one another?

What shifts when we meet and connect with ourselves with the gentleness a mother can at times offer her own child?

There is no perfect mother and perhaps that is the beauty of the richness of MOTHERING. Pain is a call for nurturing and pain is a way our human experience is imperfect. Through this, there is the ripe fruit of being invited to learn to love ourselves through active listening and understanding.

“What is love? Love is treating your heart with a great deal of tenderness, with understanding, love, and compassion. If you cannot treat your own heart this way, how can you treat your partner with understanding and love?”

-Thích Nhất Hạnh

As we move on from a collective appreciation for MOTHERS which can be a layered and challenging day for so many of us, I wonder what relationships and experiences in your life invite you deeper into HONORING MOTHERING.

Below are a few journal and/or dialogue prompts to inspire you into appreciation and HONORING MOTHERING.

*What relationships in your life support and inspire you to be more nurturing towards yourself and others?

*What environments and sensory experiences nurture you?

*What foods, clothing textures, fluids and smells nourish your heart and body?

*Recall a time when you experienced a deep, full body sense of ease and wellness. Notice what comes up for you and allow yourself to connect with your body, heart and breath for a few moments.

*Are there any relationship connections or experiences you want to create or invite that will nurture, nourish and support you at this time and going forward?

—

I fully honor you on your life path, wherever you are and whatever you might be engaging with at this time. Being an active participant in a healing process is a profound choice that supports each one of us personally and generatively nourishes all of life collectively. Your heart body ease and wellness participates as part of the whole and touches all those around you.

Will you join me in acknowledging and celebrating your wholeness and precious heart body wisdom?

May all beings experience heart peace, love and belonging.

With heart appreciation,
Leigh Aschoff
